Who we are

The Honest Experiment (https://thehonestexperiment.net) is an independent research and commentary site about HR technology, run by Priyanku Nandi in the United Kingdom. Priyanku is responsible for how personal data is handled on this site. For any question about this policy, or to make a request about your data, email priyankunandi@gmail.com.

The short version

What we collect and why

Comments. If you comment on an article, we collect the name, email address and any website you enter, plus your IP address and browser details to help detect spam. Your name, website and comment are shown publicly; your email address is never published. We keep comments and their details for as long as the comment is on the site, so returning commenters don’t get held for moderation. Our legal basis is legitimate interests: running a discussion and keeping it free of spam.

The Let’s talk form. If you send a message through the Let’s talk page, we collect your name, email address, organisation (if you give it), the topic you choose and your message, plus your IP address and browser details to help block spam. We use them only to reply to you and keep the conversation. Your message is emailed to Priyanku’s inbox, and a copy is kept in the site’s database so nothing gets lost. We keep it only as long as needed to deal with your enquiry. You’ll also get an automatic confirmation email. A hidden field on the form helps stop spam bots; it doesn’t track you or set cookies. Our legal basis is legitimate interests in responding to you.

Emails and LinkedIn messages. If you contact us, we use what you send only to reply and keep the conversation. Our legal basis is legitimate interests in responding to you.

Server logs. Like any website, our hosting provider automatically records basic technical information when pages are requested, such as IP address, browser type and the time of the request, to keep the site secure and working. These logs are kept only for a short period.

Cookies

Visitors reading the site are not given any tracking or advertising cookies. If you leave a comment, you can choose to have your name, email and website remembered in a cookie for a year so you don’t have to retype them. Site administrators get login cookies when they sign in; these are strictly necessary and don’t affect visitors.

Comments are checked for spam on our own website using the Antispam Bee plugin. This check doesn’t send your data to anyone else. Comments identified as spam are blocked, and any kept for review are deleted automatically after 7 days.

Who we share data with

We never sell your data. Some of these services may process data outside the UK; where they do, they use legally recognised safeguards.

Links and embedded content

Articles and the HR Tech AI Roadmap link to other websites, such as vendor newsrooms, news sites and LinkedIn. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and we’re not responsible for them. If we embed content from another site, it behaves as if you had visited that site directly.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law (UK GDPR) you can ask to see the personal data we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, object to how we use it, or ask us to restrict its use. Email priyankunandi@gmail.com and we’ll respond within one month. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle personal data, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
